Podcast data, measured monthly

Free, citable datasets built from the same verification pipeline that keeps dead shows off our recommendation pages. Every number links to a downloadable CSV with Apple collection IDs, so every claim is independently checkable.

What we publish

Podcast Health Report

How many curated, Apple-verified shows have gone quiet — dormancy and staleness by genre, updated monthly with a per-show CSV. The clearest finding: professionally backed categories barely go dormant, hobbyist categories go quiet at many times the rate.

Apple Charts Turnover Study coming soon

Daily snapshots of Apple's top-podcasts charts across 30 storefronts and 20 genres began in August 2026 — the first free longitudinal chart dataset since Chartable shut down. Once enough history accumulates, this study will publish chart half-life, turnover rates and category velocity.

Why we publish this

A recommendation site should show its work

The Podcast App maintains curated recommendation lists in a free podcast player. Keeping those lists honest requires verifying, every month, that each recommended show still exists and still publishes — identity pinned to Apple collection IDs, dates taken from Apple's catalog. These datasets are that verification pipeline, published. If a number here is wrong, our recommendations are wrong, and we want to know.

Use the data with attribution (CC BY 4.0). Journalists on deadline: each report page has a cite-ready block and a methodology section written to be quoted.
