How listeners find your show

The app searches the open Podcast Index and reads standard public RSS. If your show is in the index, it is in the app. If it is not, a listener can paste your feed URL. There is no submission form and no exclusive catalog.

Listeners can import and export their subscriptions as OPML for free, so moving to or from the app never costs you a subscriber.

Tags the app shows

• podcast:chapters: the chapter file is loaded and shown in the player. Inline chapter tags work too.
• podcast:transcript: your transcript is shown on the episode. WebVTT is used first, then SRT, then plain text. Your own transcript does not count against a listener's daily limit.
• podcast:funding and podcast:podroll: shown on the show page.
• podcast:person: up to five credited people per episode.

Timestamps in your episode notes also become tappable chapters. Tags the app does not read are ignored. Nothing in your feed or audio is rewritten.

Ads in your episodes

The app inserts no ads of its own and plays the audio file your feed serves. On supported shows, Smart Ad-Skip lets a listener tap once to jump to the end of a marked ad break. It is the listener's choice each time, and they can turn it off. Ads you read in the show stay in the audio.

Transcripts and AI features

When a feed has no transcript, the app can make one, and listeners can use it for chapters, summaries, episode chat and Podcast Brain, which answers questions across episodes they have heard. These features are for the listener. They give no one data about your audience, and listening history is not sold.

Opt your show out

You can ask us to turn off transcripts and AI features for your show. Email support@thepodcastapp.dev with the show name and its RSS feed URL.

Once your show is on the opt-out list, the app stops making transcripts, summaries, generated chapters and chat answers for it, Podcast Brain stops using it, and the transcripts and AI material we already stored for it are deleted. Your episodes still play as normal, and chapters or transcripts you publish in your own feed still show. Requests are honored; there is no form or dashboard. To ask about Smart Ad-Skip on your show, say so in the same email.
