Before you start
Prerequisites
Android phone with the app installed
An Android phone with The Podcast App installed from Google Play. Subscribe to at least one show on your phone before connecting.
Android-compatible car or head unit
A car or head unit that supports Android phone projection. Some setups also need the Android companion app on your phone.
A USB cable or wireless pairing
A data-capable USB cable or wireless Android pairing, depending on what your vehicle supports.
Step by step
Set up podcasts on Android in seven steps
Follow these steps the first time you connect. After setup, The Podcast App appears in your Android media launcher whenever your phone is linked.
Set up Android and connect your phone
Update the Android app if needed. Connect via USB (most reliable) or wireless Android, then accept permission prompts on phone and car screen.
Approve The Podcast App on the car screen
Make sure The Podcast App and Android are both updated, and open The Podcast App on your phone at least once so it registers as a media app. If the app is missing, open the Android app settings and confirm The Podcast App is enabled in the list of apps shown on your car screen, then reconnect.
Open The Podcast App on the Android display
On the Android screen, open the media or apps area and tap The Podcast App. Your phone library projects to the dashboard as a MediaBrowserService car app.
Browse New episodes, Queue, and Saved content
Browse New (latest from subscriptions), Queue, and Saved (which contains Downloads and History). Tap an episode to play; playback resumes where you left off on your phone.
Play and use steering-wheel and voice controls
Use steering-wheel buttons to play, pause, and skip. Say "Hey Google, play [show name] on The Podcast App" for voice control. Playback continues while you use navigation or other Android apps.
Download episodes for spotty-signal stretches
Download episodes on Wi-Fi before weak-coverage drives. They appear under Saved → Downloads in Android for playback without streaming.

Core listening through Android is free, with optional Premium for AI features such as Podcast Brain on your phone. The player does not insert its own ads; sponsor reads inside episodes are publisher content. Download episodes on Wi-Fi before weak-coverage stretches and they appear under Saved → Downloads when you connect, keeping commutes hands-free and buffer-resistant.

Troubleshooting
Most Android problems are the phone-to-car connection rather than The Podcast App itself. Work through the steps below, then use Google's official Android help for car- or head-unit-specific issues.
The Podcast App isn't on the car screen
Make sure The Podcast App and Android are both updated to the latest version from the Play Store, and that you have opened The Podcast App on the phone at least once so it registers as a media app. In the Android app, check its settings and confirm The Podcast App is enabled in the list of apps shown on your car screen. Unlock the phone the first time you connect, then disconnect and reconnect the cable. If it still doesn't show, clear the Android app's cache and try again.
No audio through the car speakers
Set the car's audio source to Android — not Bluetooth phone or radio. For wired Android, use a known-good data-capable USB cable in the car's Android USB port; charge-only cables and cheap hubs fail silently. For wireless Android, keep both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, stay near the head unit while it connects, and confirm your phone's media volume isn't muted.
Empty library or missing downloads in the car
Open The Podcast App on your phone and let it finish syncing before you drive, and subscribe to at least one show. Episodes only appear under Saved → Downloads once the download has fully completed on Wi-Fi. If the car lists look stale, force-close and reopen the app on the phone, then reconnect — Android reads the library from the phone.

Not yet. Androidmotive OS — the operating system built into some factory head units — is separate from phone-projected Android and is not supported in the current app release. Use Android with your Android phone for in-car listening today.
